Talking about work with Strangers should be avoided at any party or event in Halloween 2012 and beyond.
One of the most liberating decisions ever to be made at any social gathering is the active choice not to ask anyone anything about their profession, especially if in dialogue with a new acquaintance. Not only is it insufferably boring to talk about work ( or worse, to hear others talk about theirs); it is also a good test of character to see how well a stranger can cope in conversation without recourse to discussing their career. Hopefully when presented with this challenge, most new acquaintances will be giddy at the opportunity to talk about all the other possible subjects, be they personal, political or observational. But if the stranger asks the question, "... so what do you so?" that should be the signal to immediately ditch the conversation and move on to someone else more promising. The above directive should also be adhered to on first dates of a romantic nature, with careers only being allowed as a topic of conversation from the morning after onwards.
just a thought... bibobayona
